For me one of the most surprising things to find in this mountain of emails was banner ads. Perhaps I have just tuned them out, or maybe I just don't pay enough attention. But ultimately the business man in me realized that people are selling ad space in their email blasts! This certainly doesn't make sense for all organizations, but for many others emails are another viable source of ad revenue. If I were selling a specific product I would likely be far less inclined to do this. Regardless, it is an interesting topic to consider, and as always it is informative to see a collection of how others have done this.

Once again, I do a lot of banners that are for email inclusions; basically ad space in newsletters. Sometimes its just text links, but others may be very small thumbnail sized ads. Size is seriously tight on these.

I have found email advertising is only valuable as an advertiser when you can "rent" a sponsored message. Like when you see an email you are subscribed to that occasionally has another advertiser sending a special message enclosed in the branding of the newsletter owner. Inclusion in an email as a small add is hardly worth it when you only get a limited number of impressions, and only one impression per visit. (Unlike when you can get multiple impressions in front of a single visitor to improve the branding value of the advertisement. This is all just irrelevant in comparison to running your own list, which can be like waving a marketing magic wand. Love the site by the way
