I had not originally intended for there to be a "brands" section of SpamMeltdown. But soon after to subscribing to many newsletters I realized that some companies are putting out a real nice variety of designs. Sure, many (if not most) use a set of templates within which each email has a unique section. But all the same the point is that they are customizing each email blast and don't just have a single boring layout driven by copy. In fact many such emails are color cordinated and the overal layout changes to match the content. A remarkable amount of work goes into these designs which remain hidden away in peopls inboxes. Like some unsung hero's of graphic design.
So, the Discovery Channel seems to have a rather nice variety of layouts they work in. In fact, they have a whole series of templates the opperate under. Take a look through the samples to get an idea of the focus each email takes on. What strikes me is that somehow among all this variety they still have a common feel. Perhaps it is simply that the same designer does them all and his/her style is reflected in them. Who knows, but in the end the results speak for themselves.
