One design approach when it comes to email blasts is to make them incredibly long. This seems to happen quite often. I can imagine a debate between the short and concise crowd, and the kitchen sink crowd. I can see the point behind both sides and I have no idea which is right. Bordersuses the super long email approach and you gotta figure it works. Look at how hand crafted each email is. There is no way they are spending that much time on it if it doesn't pay off.
